Description
SU-101 - experienced average Soviet self-propelled artillery (ACS) during the Second World War. Was created in the design office UZTM autumn 1944 - spring of 1945, based on the chassis of medium tanks T-44 and T-34-85 and was intended to replace the self-propelled guns SU-100. Have developed two versions of ACS, differing only weapons: SU-101, with a 100-mm gun D-10C and SU-102, with a 122-mm gun D-25-44S. In April and May 1945 were made one or two prototypes of the SU-101 and SU-one prototype 102, during the summer and autumn of the same year successfully passed factory tests. Despite the promise of self-propelled guns and high for its time characteristics, with the end of the war it was decided to discontinue further work on them, due to the inconvenience of deploying a new release of ACS based on units of tanks war period, not fully meet the requirements for use in peacetime. Experience on the SU-101 and SU-102, however, has been used in the works of post-war projects ACS.
